Your own door, your own key
Private garage unit for your car
A drive-up storage unit is a private garage with a roll-up door. Nobody else moves your car, and you come and go during the facility’s hours. A 10 x 20 ft unit fits most cars. Send your details and we find units that allow vehicles.
Will my car fit?
| Unit size | Fits | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 10 x 10 ft | Not a car | Too short for almost any car. A motorcycle or tires. |
| 10 x 15 ft | Small cars, a Mazda MX-5 or Mini | Tight. Measure door to door. |
| 10 x 20 ft | Most cars and small SUVs | The usual choice. |
| 10 x 25 ft and up | Pickups, large SUVs, a car plus parts | Fewer available. |
Check the door width and height, not only the floor. Sizes vary by facility.

Before you rent a unit for a car
Vehicle storage allowed?
Not every self-storage facility allows cars in units. Many ask for registration and insurance.
Power
Most units have no outlet, so plan to take the battery out or use a solar or portable tender.
Working on the car
Most facilities do not allow repairs in units. Ask before you bring tools.
Fuel and fluids
Some facilities limit fuel in stored vehicles. Ask what they require.
Garage unit questions
Is a unit cheaper than indoor parking?
Not usually. A 10 x 20 unit starts at $120/month, shared indoor parking at $110/month. You pay for privacy and your own access.
Can I keep winter tires in the unit too?
Yes, that is one of the advantages. A 10 x 20 unit fits a car and a set of tires on a rack.
